Everyone knows I'm in over my head, over my head....
That was my theme song in 2006. Every time the key turned in our nondescript economy car that we parked on a busy city street and crossed our fingers would still be there the next morning, The Fray would sing to me.
Right after I announced my pregnancy in the summer of 2006, positions were eliminated and switched around at my company and I found myself in charge of my department. After three years of experience.
Couples were trusting me with the "biggest day of their lives" and their savings. And I cared when I wasn't puking in my office garbage can or on the street in front of Macy's. Did the smell of dumpsters get anyone else or was it only me?
Then there was the fact that a person was growing inside of me. When did I get to be an adult? Could I seriously be a parent?
There I was, a quarter of a century old with a baby belly, radio cranked up belting out the lyrics on my way downtown-
Everyone knows I'm in over my head, over my head....
Today when I turned on the radio and The Fray began to serenade me, a smile came across my face. So much can change in a little over four years. The economy car was upgraded to a SUV, parental status changed from preggers to mom of two and I added a sub to my urban.
While I'll probably always be in a little over my head, I'm confident. I can do this mom thing. In fact, Ellie proclaimed me the best mom ever before bed last night.
Ellie wasn't feeling the Fray at first and wanted me to flip through our presets to find Taylor, Katy or Gaga. When I told her that we listened to this song together when she was in my tummy, her face lit up so we sang -
Everyone knows I'm in over my head, over my head.
With eight seconds left in overtime, she's on your mind. She's on your mind.
Is there a song that is a total flashback for you? Where does it take you?
Brown Eyed Girl gives me a flash back to when I first met you. With your one blue eye and one brown eye I think of you every time I hear it!

ReplyDeleteYou are the best mom and one of my best friends. I hope you are never "in over your head" and let me know if you ever need a juicebox! ;)
