"Oh, yeah, what will you do during nap time?" was his remark. But it's more than that.
I have been watching All My Children since birth. Coming home from kindergarten, we ate lunch and AMC was on. In middle school and high school we would catch up on Pine Valley during Christmas and Summer Vacations.
My grandma was ahead of her time. She used her VCR+ to record her soaps and would replay them at night. Many visits were spent swimming all day in the southwest sun, shopping and then eating homemade goodies while laying on our tummies watching All My Children.
In college, I couldn't believe my luck when I had a midday break. My friends and I would grab sandwiches to go and eat in our room with AMC on in the background.
Then came the invention of the DVR and the SOAP Network and daytime TV was accessible to the masses. All My Children was on while I was in labor with Elizabeth and was worth staying awake for during the newborn haze. Having early risers is not the only reason naps in Ellie-Town start at noon.
AMC has been gracing our screens for over 40 years. It's more than a show or a way to pimp products to stay-at-home moms. We have all seen the power of social media, consider this your call to action!

I realize we aren't solving the world's problems or curing cancer here but let's keep a daytime tradition going. And maybe get some new writers on board to liven things up a bit?
Are you a die-hard soap fan? Tell us - what is your daytime addiction?

I hadn't heard they were going to cancel All My Children. I grew up on General Hospital. My parents actually got rid of their tv for years because that was all I wanted to do. ;) I wish you luck in keeping AMC on the air.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbors when I was a teenager recorded AMC and we watched it at their house. They couldn't miss an episode. ... What will become of Erica Kane?
ReplyDeleteSince I am responsible for the addiction and Walt Wiley was a college acquaintance, I will be doing my part as well.
ReplyDeleteThis cracks me up Kristin. I watched young and the restless when I was in high school and a little in college but that is about it. Not a big soap fan sorry.:( don't hate me. LOL
ReplyDeleteB, I realize I am totaly and completely lame. Everyone needs a cause, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellie! Email has been sent, petition signed and comments made directly to ABC. You need to post the links on the CNN story on the cancellation. They are not considering the fact that there a great deal of elderly people who get great pleasure out of watching their "stories". I will miss it also but it will create a huge gap in their programming choices.
