Here's a tip...

Don't tell Ellie you have a surprise for her.

Maybe you are bringing over new house phones.  Or maybe you stopped at the grocery store and picked up her beloved Goldfish on your way home.

Whatever it is, don't say it's a surprise.

Because if you say, "Ellie!  I brought a surprise for you!"  you are likely to get "Is it my very own drum set?!!!"

Or she might reply with, "Did you find me a talking duck?!!!!"

Maybe even, "Is it a for real violin?!!!"

When really you brought home Goldfish.  So my tip of the day is to just be specific.  Ellie will be thrilled to get the four pack of chocolate pudding, just don't let her think for a second that she might get getting a talking duck.  ;)

  1. We made that mistake last weekend. Our surprise was chocolate pudding and she was hoping it would be a child size violin of her very own. I mean, we really are trying to be fabulous grandparents...we just aren't that fabulous. ;)

  2. Too cute! I used to hope for a pony, but would never have dreamed that anyone might actually give me one! I love that she's so expressive!
