To say I was stressed over preschool would be a gross understatement. Ellie's first organized activity without a parent kept me up at night.
I had my reasons, like the playdate from hell. Plus during the week preschool started we had another baby's big milestone, a beach vacation and dance class happening so you can see why I thought the transition might be a little rough.
Ellie wavered from being super excited to a little nervous. At drop off the first day she didn't cry. But she did cry on days 2, 3 and 4.
Miss B described Ellie to me as shy on week 3 and I thought she must have had her mistaken for another kid. My singing, dancing, joke telling Ellie shy?
As the weeks have gone on, Ellie has become more and more in love with school. She even sees her friends out about town. And now when I pick her up? She buckles the top buckle of her car seat on her own and sings out, "I didn't even miss you. I was just too busy having too much fun." It feels so good not to be missed.
Tonight we had our first ever Open House as parents/kids. Ellie gave us a tour of her school and snacked on a brownie while Miss B told us how Ellie has improved in the last weeks. Not that our Ellie wasn't totally fab to begin with, but Miss B told us how she has matured and soaked up everything being thrown her way.
Now when Ellie shows me the papers in her folder after school, her letter tracing is almost always perfect. Her art projects are coherent to someone who wasn't in class to hear the directions. And she is just thrilled to tell me all about it.
The school has a stoplight for discipline. You move from green to yellow to {God forbid!} red throughout class when your behavior warrants it. Ellie has ended on green everytime. Maybe she'll be like her mom who not once, never ever had her name written on the board at school. Or maybe I just jinxed us with this post.
How is your 2010-2011 school year going so far?
Yay! So happy things are going well! Such a great feeling to know that your child adores school! And how great is that that she's always on green! Go girl, go!
ReplyDeleteI want Mia to stay in pre-school forever. LOL. Kindergarten next year is going to come way too soon for me!
ReplyDeleteI just signed Laila up for preschool yesterday. Starts in January. We are both very excited. She had her backpack ready 4 minutes after we registered.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy Ellie is loving preschool. I have parent/teacher conferences for Peanut on Friday. His name hasn't been written on the board for a few weeks so I'm hoping it will be all good news! :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Mingle Monday, and I loooove your blog! Such a precious picture. Can't wait to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI only had my name written on the board once...and it was because I was reading and not listening to the teacher. Yeah, I was a nerd. HA!
ReplyDeleteThat's so good! I'm really glad that she's warmed up to it all.
ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old son loves his class too! His teacher told me today that he is doing very well in comparison to some others. Needless to say I was very proud. Our babies are growing up...eeeks!
ReplyDelete"But if you cry, even a little, you can get put on yellow. Don't worry, Nonna. It's only temporary. If you can get it together, they let you go back to green."

Preschool is such a big transition. Glad it's going well for you! I was really nervous when my oldest started, too. Both my girls are well behaved in school. But at home is a different story! My youngest takes after me in that she is VERY naughty. I was always doing things I wasn't supposed to be doing, testing the limits, but I reserved that all for my mother at home.
