Baby Fits

And 3,2,1....baby fit!

Have you experienced a baby fit? It is like a mini tantrum. You know, the practice rounds a baby goes through before they perfect the tantrum.

Baby fits can come out of nowhere. A few possible triggers could be, but are not limited to, a balloon floating out of reach, taking away a choking hazard, mentioning the word nap or diaper, or simply the baby getting frustrated at life.

Madeline's baby fit goes like this:
A look of pure anger.
Throwing of body backwards on the floor.
Kicking on back while flailing arms and screaming.
Flipping to stomach, feet still kicking and arms still flailing.
Sitting up and moving on.

All of this happens within 30 seconds. It is quite dramatic and then as soon as it starts it is done.

When we see Madeline begin to throw herself back Ellie looks at me and says, "Uh oh. Here comes another baby fit!" and we both watch as our calm, mild mannered baby turns into a mini Tasmanian Devil.

There really is no way to diffuse a baby fit since they can be triggered by anything. And trying to calm the baby down just makes things worse. The best course of action is to stand back, make sure the baby is safe and pray that these fits will not turn into huge tantrums in another six months.

You now know how to spot and treat a baby fit. If anyone is an expert on preventing them I would love to hear from you!

  1. :wavey: we have baby fits all the time!! I don't remember them with Mia. Is it a second child thing???? The biggest issue is the choking hazard for us. He loves all of Mia's little toys....especially polly pockets!
