Ellie has wanted to play on a team for a while and she has been obsessed with soccer for months.
Ellie's team, The Ducklings, is in brown. We didn't know what color she would be so she is wearing cute turquoise capri sweat pants that matched a cute navy hoodie with rainbow stripes.
On the Ducklings you have the usual toddler stereotypes: the kid who won't put on the team t-shirt and won't leave the goalie net so the other kids can have a turn, the girl who cried the entire time and wouldn't let her mom put her down, the natural athlete, the kid that would run to the ball and pick it up with his hands every.single.time.
Before you say anything, I am not judging. I've been the parent who wants to hide under the chair because of how their child is acting, I'm just observing. And it is interesting to me, that in any given group of kids, some roles never change.
Today Ellie was none of those kids. She was the one who got to kick the ball a couple of times and kept looking back to us for support and encouragement. We had a few "I can't do it!" moments highlighted by a flip of the messy pigtails, but over all she tried really hard, encouraged her teammates and did a great job.
So, without further fanfare, we present Toddler Soccer:
Warm Ups
Drills
The chaos that is Toddler Soccer!
Madeline watching her Big Sis in action!
Having a snack after a hard day of playing.
In case you were wondering, Ellie picked out her soccer shoes for her birthday. They are all silver with an orange swoosh. She didn't want the pretty pink ones. ;)
Oh, and one last thing - on the way home, Madeline was really fussy and starting to cry. I look back and see Ellie trying to calm her down. Ellie says, "Shhhh. It's okay, sweetheart, we'll be home soon." Ah, Sisterly Love.
