3 Lessons Learned at Cracker Barrel

On a recent visit to Cracker Barrel, Ellie was able to learn a few valuable lessons.

1.  Hair-do's come in all lengths.

Lookout Poppa!  Turn around!  That man's got no hair!

Poppa was sitting on the end of our table and indeed the man behind him had no hair.  By choice.  Ellie was stunned, shocked and freaked at the sight of the shiny head.  It's not like all of her grandparents have a full head of hair so we were shocked by her shocked-ness.  We explained that people choose to have their hair in many different ways and that guy just decided to have none at all.  No biggie.

2.  Every family has different table manners.

Poppa, what happened to your hat?

I took it off sweetheart.  It's not polite to wear your hat at the table.

{Glancing to the table next to us} Then why does he -

Every family has their own rules for what's polite.

3.  Not every little pony with a sparkly mane is a "My Little Pony."
And yes, there is a difference.  The ones they sell at Cracker Barrel are fuzzy all over their pony bodies.  Ick.

Have you had "teachable moments" with your kids lately?

  1. It's true, every little moment can be teachable - my little one is still a bit too young to even be asking questions, but soon!

You forgot the "teaching Poppa table manners" lesson...every straw cover blown off does not reach the intended target.
